The Best Sunset Spots in Kuta Lombok (2026 Guide)

The best sunset spots in Kuta Lombok — Merese Hill, Seger, and Prabu — plus sunset times by month and how to get to each viewpoint before the light goes.

Sunset in Kuta Lombok doesn't require much planning. The hills and coastline around town offer several elevated viewpoints within a short ride, and most evenings in dry season are worth stopping for. The key is knowing which direction you're looking from each spot, and getting there early enough to actually see the light rather than hiking up in the dark.

The best sunset spot in Kuta Lombok depends on how far you want to ride and how much of a crowd you'll tolerate. Below are the three that consistently deliver — Merese Hill for the classic view, Seger for a five-minute option, and Prabu Hill for a quiet locals' spot — followed by the sunset times you can expect through the year.

What Time Is Sunset in Lombok?

Sunset in South Lombok falls between roughly 5:45pm and 6:30pm depending on the time of year. Lombok sits just south of the equator, so the swing across the year is small — but it's enough to plan around. Approximate times:

MonthApprox. sunset
January6:25pm
March6:10pm
May5:50pm
June–July5:45pm
September5:50pm
November6:10pm
December6:25pm

The sky stays light for 15–20 minutes after the sun drops below the horizon, and those last minutes are often the best colour of the evening. Aim to be in position 30–40 minutes before the listed time.

Merese Hill (Bukit Merese)

This is the most popular sunset viewpoint near Kuta, and for good reason. Merese Hill sits at the western end of Tanjung Aan beach, about 15-20 minutes east of Kuta by scooter. The hike to the top takes 10-15 minutes on a clear trail — nothing technical, just a steady walk up. From the ridge, you get an unobstructed view over Tanjung Aan bay to the east and the coastline stretching west toward Kuta and beyond.

Arrive 30-40 minutes before sundown. The hill can get crowded in peak season, but it's wide enough that you can walk further along the ridge and find your own space away from the main viewing area near the entrance. The furthest accessible point is about 20 minutes from the parking lot and is usually quieter.

The parking area for Merese is right next to the Tanjung Aan beach parking — 10,000 IDR for a scooter. There are snack vendors at the base. After sunset, it's worth walking down to the beach for a drink at one of the warungs before heading back.

One note: there are sometimes monkeys near the parking area. Keep food and loose items secured.

Seger Viewpoint

Seger Beach is five minutes east of Kuta — close enough that you can decide to go on a whim. At the beach, a pair of low hills overlooks the bay. The right-hand hill (heading toward the Seger Reef surf break) gives you a direct view of the horizon and the bay with activity below — surfers in the water, locals on the beach, the sweep of the Mandalika coastline.

The left-hand hill is quieter and looks north toward the MotoGP circuit and the hills behind Kuta. Less dramatic as a sunset view, but a good option if you want somewhere to sit without people around.

Neither hill is a long walk — you can be at the top in under 10 minutes from the road. No parking fee. Seger is a good option for evenings when you want a quick, low-effort sunset without committing to a full scooter ride.

Prabu Hill

Heading west out of Kuta toward Are Guling, there's a viewpoint on the hillside above the descent into the valley — locally referred to as Prabu Hill or Bukit Prabu. The view here looks west over a broad valley and rolling hills, with the setting sun directly in your sightline on clear evenings.

Arrive about 20 minutes before sunset and position yourself near the top of the descent before the road drops into the valley. The spot just before the bat caves on the right side of the road is typically where people stop. There's no formal parking or facilities — just pull off the road and walk to the edge. It's more of a locals' spot than a tourist attraction, which keeps it genuinely calm.

The drive out there is pleasant in itself — good road through hills and local villages, about 15 minutes from central Kuta.

Practical Notes

Dry season (May–October) brings clearer skies and more reliable sunset views. Wet season sunsets happen too, and can be dramatic, but cloud cover is less predictable — check the sky an hour before and decide on the day. For exact timing by month, see the table near the top of this guide.

All three spots are best reached by scooter. Roads to Tanjung Aan and Seger are well-sealed. The road to Prabu Hill is also sealed; the viewpoint is on the main road west, so no turning off onto rough tracks. If you're heading to Merese, it's worth making a half-day of it — see our Tanjung Aan beach guide for the bay right below the hill.
