How The Spot Manages Wi-Fi for Remote Workers: The Omada Network System

The Spot uses an Omada-managed network to deliver dedicated speeds per device — here's how it works and why it matters for video calls and remote work in Kuta Lombok.

Most café Wi-Fi in Lombok works on a simple model: one connection shared among everyone in the space. When the space is empty, it's fast. When it's full, it slows down for everyone simultaneously.

The Spot runs a different setup, built specifically for the kind of usage a coworking space requires.

The Omada Network System

The Spot uses TP-Link Omada — a managed Wi-Fi system that handles traffic allocation intelligently rather than letting all devices compete for the same bandwidth.

**What this means in practice:**

  • **Quality of Service (QoS)** policies prioritize traffic by type. Video calls get routed to low-latency, high-priority paths. Background syncing and downloads get what's left.
  • **Dedicated bandwidth per device** — each connected device gets a guaranteed portion of the available bandwidth, so one person uploading a large file doesn't degrade everyone else's video calls.
  • **Centralized management** — the network is monitored and managed from a single dashboard. Issues are visible and addressable in real time.

The Full Network Picture

Omada handles the Wi-Fi layer. Beneath it:

  • **Primary connection**: Fibre — fast, low latency (~2ms), the main working connection
  • **Backup**: Starlink — satellite internet that activates automatically if the fibre ISP has an outage

The result is a system that handles the coworking space's real use case: 10-15 people simultaneously on video calls, running cloud tools, syncing files, and making demands a normal café connection would buckle under.

In Numbers

  • **30+ Mbps dedicated** per device in the coworking area
  • **~2ms latency** on the primary connection
  • **Total capacity**: 500+ Mbps download on the main line

If you've had poor experiences with "fast Wi-Fi" at other venues in Lombok, this is why The Spot is different. The infrastructure was designed for remote work, not retrofitted for it.
